the cellular evolution of lissa monet.


with the recent tumble of RIM shares and lots of BBM servers taking a temporary vacation from the stresses of the world, i thought i’d take this time to reminisce on the cellular handheld pagers/devices that have held me hostage i mean, kept me in touch with the world throughout the years:



after persistently convincing my mom that i wasn’t a doctor or an aspiring drug dealer, i got a TRUE BLUE motorola pager for my birthday!
i walked around with a heavy mini backpack with all my quarters for those random moments where i would be out at the mall and have to call a friend at a payphone to find out what end of the mall they were in so we could meet up at the movie theatre o_O. oh the joys of being a teenager.

 

after seeing this huge grey contraption shown above on the hips of my fave rapper in this music video:

 

i bought the motorola timeport with my first paycheck! i remember it clearly, it was my first year in college and i thought i was being a good marketing student because i was keeping in touch with all ten of my ‘contacts’ [who also had timeports] and spent my nights making ringtones out of neptunes beats like ‘holla back youngin’ and  ‘shake ya ass’ by mystikal. music couldn’t really escape me.

 

then this.

 

the sidekick  – or hiptop  as it was affectionately called in canada – was my best friend.
and my worst enemy.
i held on to this for as long as i could until this contraption came available:

 


and its been a long journey with the bold and the curve and the storm and the torch ever since [i never messed with the pearl or the tour].
i really hope RIM bounces back from this….uh….mike vick moment and comes out victorious. otherwise its off to the other side.

 

RIM, please. dont make me go there. i already have a macbook pro and an ipod touch and its ruling my world. i got one foot in the door RIM. one foot in the door.

I loved this article. It took me back to a time when things were a little more simple and the only thing you worried about was having a quarter in your pocket to call back the person that just paged you!

I love it Lissa. Right now I just want to throw my Blackberry Torch out the window.
