So ever since Ryan Leslie started rapping, I’ve slowly stopped listening.

Don’t get me wrong, this didn’t happen overnight. I always thought I’d be apart of this unwavering cult following. I’m really taking into consideration that every artist must try something at least once, figure out if that something works for them and then get a little feedback from their fans before deciding if its something that works. I don’t know, maybe Ryan is spending too much time in the studio with Fabulous and all these other super awesome rappers he’s producing amazing beats for, which is understandable, you can totally be influenced by the people and places around you, but your SINGING voice [and those crazy chord progressions] is what initially won the hearts of the people who fell in love with you back when your fans used to leak crazy amounts of music onto the internet and when you had an online tv channel light years before anyone thought to use youtube….for anything.

Ryan Leslie, in my eyes, will always be an exceptional talent with an undeniable ear for music. He will always be an online marketing innovator, a musical visionary, someone who can make someone fall in love with 16 bars of his music just by watching a 2 minute video.

But rapping about bringing rosé to the VIP and acting the fool in the club isn’t the essence of who I think he is musically. Personally, I would save all that for the Drake’s and Diddy’s of the world.

But then again, we are constantly evolving in life and experiencing moments at different stages in our lives so we have the right to exude our influences. But when you have a God given talent such as Ryan Leslie, rapping over pseudo trap music with dope chord progressions isn’t bringing anything new to the table.

But this is just me, spoiled-ass lissa, going through what I went through when Jay-Z went from ‘Marcy to Madison Square’, and when Mary J. Blige had ‘no more drama’. I really tend to take these slight changes personally. But only for artists who have made an impact in my life musically. You either move with them or leave them behind. But as long as Ryan keeps doing things like this:

All will still be well in the world and hopefully my Ryan Leslie fan club membership wont be revoked. I mean, he did have a perfect score on his SATs at the age of 14 and graduated from Harvard University at the age of 19. So I’m sure he will get over this rapping thing soon enough lol :)
